After the Early-Deceased White Moonlight of a Wealthy Family Returns (GL) - Chapter 40
The abandoned seaside bathing beach had now become a gathering place for camping enthusiasts. Three or five cars were parked under the yellow hibiscus and autumn maple trees, and colorful tents were pitched across the sand.
From a distance, these tiny tents looked like a row of little houses, the kind seen on a Monopoly board.
Approaching midnight, people on the beach lit bonfires; sparks burst forth as if the stars from the sky had fallen into the flames. Others were grilling barbecue, and the sound of beer being opened released a sharp hiss of carbonation.
The aromas of minced garlic and spicy peppers drifted through the air.
No one noticed that in a dark corner, a black car had slowly pulled over, engaging the brakes far away from the main crowd.
Su Wu looked down at the tail that was still coiled around her wrist.
“Thanks for cooperating,” she said. “We successfully avoided a car accident.”
“Hungry?” She poked the little tail.
The tail twitched as if tickled; after winding a few S-curves, it turned back to rub against Su Wu’s fingertips.
“Let’s make a deal,” Su Wu said. “I can feed you now, but after that, you must stay quiet. It’s dangerous to touch me randomly like this while I’m driving.” Her gaze fell on the girl still lying with closed eyes beside her. “Twitch twice if you agree.”
The little tail was truly obedient and twitched exactly twice.
Su Wu let out a soft laugh.
“Will you do it yourself, or should I?” She looked at the bloodstains on her hand.
The little tail twitched twice again.
Su Wu interpreted: “You’ll do it?”
The tail rubbed against her wrist.
Su Wu simply extended her hand and placed it on the car’s center console.
The tail pressed close immediately.
It was shadow-like; it didn’t have a fluffy texture, but rather exuded a deathly, icy coldness. It was hard for Su Wu to describe the tactile sensation of this tail—if she had to, it felt more like the tentacles of some eerie creature that just happened to grow in the shape of a tail.
After coiling around her wrist for a long while, the tip of the tail drew near the wound. The shadow actually split apart, turning into infinitely fine threads that seeped into the red gashes.
“Mngh—”
Su Wu bit her teeth and let out a muffled groan.
The sensation on her skin was a bit like getting a tattoo; she was familiar with that feeling. What was unfamiliar was that a tattoo needle only causes a moment of pain, whereas these threads from the tail were burrowing into her body and moving around like living things.
The bizarre sensation made Su Wu’s scalp tingle.
“You can’t eat too much,” she warned the tail. “I still have to bring your mistress—if I can call her that—I still have to bring her home.”
The tail made no move.
Su Wu frowned and was about to poke the tail when she suddenly noticed a flicker of red passing through the shadow. Along the threads probed into her body, a reversal seemed to be happening, as if her blood was being transported back to the girl.
It was a bit like charging a battery. The only difference was that what flowed through the “wires” wasn’t energy, but blood.
She turned her head to look, and the girl who had been unconscious for a long time slowly opened her eyes.
Her eyes weren’t entirely red like before; instead, they were like glass beads—dark, lightless pupils stained with an indistinct crimson.
Shen You’an was awake, but not fully.
The tail retracted, replaced by the gaze of the girl looking over. To be precise, there was no light in those eyes; they were like the broken statues in an abandoned temple—stone-carved pupils staring blankly at everyone.
“You’an?” Su Wu called her name.
The girl tilted her head but made no sound. She continued to stare at Su Wu’s wrist.
“Still hungry?” Su Wu asked.
The girl didn’t answer or nod; she simply leaned down, brought her head close to the wound on the wrist, and stared at it from a very, very close distance.
Su Wu smiled faintly: “You want it that much?”
The girl’s nose twitched twice, the soft tip of her small nose brushing against the wound. Her breath fanning down was like the sniffing of a wild beast.
“I’ll give you more when we get home, okay?” Su Wu’s voice was gentle. “It’s not far; we’re going to the villa nearby.”
Su Wu had considered that if Shen You’an reverted to her previous form, it would be inappropriate to be in the apartment complex. There were too many eyes and ears. So, she hadn’t driven toward the city center but had taken Shen You’an in the opposite direction, away from the city.
The girl ignored her, sniffed twice more, and tilted her head at her. Like a cat or a dog, she rubbed the side of her face against Su Wu’s wrist.
Su Wu was speechless.
“You’re even better at acting spoiled than usual.”
For the sake of food, she could truly do anything.
Su Wu adjusted her posture, leaning sideways against the driver’s side door, her elbow resting on the steering wheel and the back of her hand supporting her face.
Shen You’an was still looking at her. A certain redness swirled within the pitch-black eyes. Those pupils were like mirrors, perfectly reflecting Su Wu’s figure.
She was very well-behaved.
Despite having lost her reason and acting mostly on a shred of predatory appetite, she was still very sensible, leaning against Su Wu’s wrist like a puppy that sits obediently before its food bowl, waiting for the command to eat.
Even having become a monster, respecting Su Wu was Shen You’an’s instinct.
Su Wu curled the corners of her mouth: “Eat.”
Those two words were like pulling back the curtain on a midnight banquet.
Stars sat on the black backdrop of the sky; in the distance was the burning bonfire, the light leaping as people chatted busily about gossip.
In the silent corner, the girl licked the woman’s wrist, wetting it three times first—perhaps out of respect for the food. It was like saying “Itadakimasu” with folded hands before a meal on a neighboring island, or the mealtime prayers said by religious people on the other side of the Pacific.
The wound had become translucent and moist.
The girl’s tongue was different from before; there were no barbs, it was exceptionally soft. She cradled the woman’s wrist and opened her mouth. In the endless dim light, Su Wu saw two canine teeth emerge—they had grown out right before her eyes.
Su Wu realized then.
This feeding session was different from the previous ones. If being in a totally controlled state in the face of the “monster” had made her lose the urge to flee, then now, facing the senseless girl, Su Wu—the “food”—actually tilted her head with interest to watch the girl’s dining movements more closely.
The fangs were like a vampire’s, piercing the skin over the wound; holes appeared instantly. A flash of sharp pain followed, causing nerves throughout her body to vibrate. The next second, the tip of a tongue pressed up, swiping away the blood flowing from the holes.
It was so quiet.
Su Wu could even hear the sound of the girl swallowing the blood.
Gulp.
Gulp.
Her throat was moving, tasting thirstily; at this moment, an extraordinary desire shone through those dull, lightless pupils. Desire lit up everything, making her expression vivid.
At the same time, Su Wu felt that besides the pain of having her blood taken, her body actually began to feel a strange, melting softness. Starting from the place where she was bitten, her wrist grew hot, and the heat spread inch by inch, climbing higher.
It felt like heart-eating insects scurrying restlessly through her body.
An uncontrollable sound escaped from between her teeth.
“Mmh…” Su Wu instinctively closed her eyes.
The movement on her wrist stopped.
The girl stopped drinking, blinked, and opened her mouth to release the wrist. Looking like she had done something wrong, she tilted her head up to look at Su Wu.
Her fangs were still stained with red, as was the tip of her tongue.
Su Wu said nothing.
As if to please her, the girl extended the tip of her tongue and licked the woman’s wrist, then tilted her head, waiting in confusion.
Su Wu’s voice was raspy: “It’s fine.”
“It doesn’t hurt.”
“Full?”
The girl blinked and looked back at the wrist. She greedily extended her tongue and licked her own fangs—a simple action, yet in the eyes of the one watching, it caused an unbearable restlessness.
She should call a stop to this.
Su Wu’s rational mind knew that the girl in her current state was an insatiable beast. It would be better to take advantage of her remaining sliver of consciousness to go home. If any other changes occurred…
But in her subconscious, a voice was telling her:
It won’t happen.
None of the things you worry about will happen.
So, correspondingly, you can do what you want to do.
Su Wu reached out and wiped a bit of residual blood from the corner of the girl’s mouth for her. She brought her finger to her own lips and extended her tongue to take a lick.
“Doesn’t taste like much—”
Her words were cut off.
The girl pounced, pinning Su Wu against the driver’s seat. Her hands clutched Su Wu’s shoulders, her eyes fixed deathly on the tip of Su Wu’s tongue. There, a small trace of red was obvious.
Su Wu was stunned for a moment, then gave a helpless smile: “Protecting your food that much? I can’t even touch my own blood?”
The girl didn’t speak, but moved closer.
“Fine, I’ll give it back to you,” she indulged.
Su Wu raised her eyebrows, opened her mouth, and extended the tip of her tongue.
The girl was so, so obedient. Her hands pressed on Su Wu’s shoulders; she could have simply leaned in and kissed her to take everything from her mouth. Instead, she only approached cautiously, using her own tongue to lick that tiny bit of red. Fearing she hadn’t had enough or hadn’t taken it all, she leaned her mouth forward and sucked once, slurping it up.
Su Wu’s tongue went numb; her whole body felt weak. A certain heat began to rise in her lower abdomen.
BOOM—
Crackle! Pop!
On the beach of the abandoned bathing area, fireworks exploded.
People were screaming and laughing, excited by the beautiful blossoms in the sky. The word “beautiful” always favors the briefness of a fleeting moment—like summer fireworks, the aurora at the poles, or the tail of a falling meteor.
Su Wu’s back was to the fireworks; she should have seen nothing. But the girl’s pupils captured every firework in their entirety.
The sea breeze became tender and affectionate due to this instant of romance.
Su Wu’s eyes were moist and shining, but the girl looked innocent. She rubbed her cheek against Su Wu’s in a spoiled manner, buried her head, and sniffed at Su Wu’s neck.
Su Wu understood her intent. She said nothing and made no move.
The girl pushed her luck, repeating the pre-meal ritual from earlier—licking the skin of the neck three times. Just as she tentatively pressed her fangs against it, a hand pinched the skin at the back of her neck.
She stopped mid-action, puzzled, and looked up in confusion.
The woman said coldly: “Not here.”
The girl was unhappy and tried to rub against her again. The woman gripped her neck and pulled her further away.
“No.” The words were crisp and utterly decisive.
Su Wu thought that if that naughty little tail were still out, it would probably be drooping and listless behind Shen You’an right now.
“Not here,” Su Wu said, looking at her. “But you can at home.”
