After Transmigrating into a Book, I Became the Vicious Female Supporting Lead - Chapter 5
Mu Yunge watched her movements, the corners of her lips curling slightly as her gaze drifted inadvertently across the back of Lin Qiyan’s neck.
“Yan Yan, your clothes seem a bit damp. Do you want to go change?”
Lin Qiyan tugged at her collar and casually gathered her loose hair. “I should go look for a rental place first and buy some daily necessities. Having only this one set of clothes isn’t really enough.”
Mu Yunge produced a hair tie from somewhere and handed it to her. Lin Qiyan thanked her, took it, and tied her hair into a neat, refreshing bun.
Mu Yunge said brightly, “Alright, I’ll go with you.”
Lin Qiyan looked toward the teaching building partially hidden behind the trees. “Aren’t you going back to class?”
Mu Yunge replied, “It was just a pop quiz; I finished and came out early. Besides,” she crinkled her eyes, “didn’t you say it yourself, Yan Yan? It’s not safe for a girl to be alone.”
Hearing her own words used back on her, Lin Qiyan smiled. “Fair enough.”
During class hours, students weren’t allowed to leave the school gates freely. Mu Yunge led Lin Qiyan away from the surveillance cameras to a spot by the perimeter wall. A few red bricks were stacked at the base, and the grass in this area had been trampled bare. It was clearly a well-worn path for students skipping class.
Lin Qiyan was a bit surprised. “Yunge, you do this often, don’t you?”
Mu Yunge replied, “I don’t, actually.”
“I’ll go up first. You step on the bricks, Yan Yan, and I’ll catch you from the top.”
Lin Qiyan watched as Mu Yunge made a nimble leap, her hands gripping the top of the wall. Before Lin Qiyan could even react, the other girl was already sitting gracefully atop the wall. Looking down at Lin Qiyan, a few stray curls from her high ponytail fell over her shoulder.
Mu Yunge braced one foot against the ledge, let the other leg dangle, and reached out her hand. “Come on, Yan Yan.”
Lin Qiyan gauged the height, steadied herself against the wall, stepped onto the stacked bricks, and grasped Mu Yunge’s hand. Just as she was lifting her foot and searching for a crevice to exert force, a booming voice suddenly rang out.
“You two students over there! What are you doing?! Get down!”
Then came the sound of footsteps rapidly crunching through the grass.
Lin Qiyan’s heart tightened, and her foot inevitably slipped. From above, she heard a quick command: “Hold tight.”
The next moment, the pulling force on her hand surged. The world blurred. She felt herself sit on something firm, a hand swept around her waist to pull her close, and then they both tumbled backward.
Lin Qiyan experienced that weightless sensation once again. She instinctively reached out and gripped the other girl’s clothes. Mu Yunge let out a soft laugh, shielded her in her arms, and they landed on the grass outside the wall, rolling a few times before coming to a steady stop.
Lin Qiyan lay in Mu Yunge’s embrace, the two of them pressed very close. It was impossible to tell whose heartbeat was racing so violently.
Coming to her senses, Lin Qiyan scrambled up and pulled Mu Yunge to her feet. She checked her over from head to toe, her voice uncharacteristically stern: “How could you just fall backward from that high up? What if you got hurt?”
Mu Yunge averted her gaze, her eyelids drooping slightly, before turning back. “Yan Yan, your pheromones seem to be leaking.”
Lin Qiyan knew she was changing the subject, but she inevitably took the bait. “Pheromones?”
Mu Yunge provided her with an easy out: “Did you forget to spray your blocker today?”
Lin Qiyan didn’t fully understand, but that didn’t stop her from taking the exit. She nodded repeatedly. “My things are all at school, so I didn’t spray any.”
Mu Yunge expressed her understanding considerately. “I have an uncle who runs a hospital nearby. Let’s go there and get some for you. It’s too dangerous for an Omega to go to crowded places while fully emitting pheromones.”
Lin Qiyan accepted this passively. On the way there, her mind was in a total state of “system failure.”
[What are pheromones? What are blockers? And is ‘Omega’ referring to me? Isn’t this just a normal book world? Am I not just a normal vicious female supporting lead?]
Mu Yunge caught her blank expression out of the corner of her eye and secretly curled her lips. The Alpha’s mischievous streak was acting up again.
The hospital was in the city center. Since the school was an older establishment, the business district had sprouted up right next to the Yanda Affiliated High School. The two arrived after a short walk.
As Mu Yunge entered the main building, the receptionist smiled at her. “Dr. Mu is in his office on the 20th floor.”
Mu Yunge gave a hum of acknowledgement. Lin Qiyan looked at the receptionist and gave a polite smile. The woman’s smile widened. “What a cute little ‘O’.”
Hearing that term again, Lin Qiyan felt internally numb and managed a faint smile. Mu Yunge, amused, led her into the staff-only elevator. Lin Qiyan was desperate to know what these things actually were—the little light ball hadn’t mentioned a word of it.
Mu Yunge mentioned casually, “Yan Yan, why don’t you have your glands checked?”
Lin Qiyan looked over, confused.
Mu Yunge smiled at her. “The hospital happens to have a package deal these two days—if you buy suppressants and blockers, you get a free gland exam. You can check your hormone levels and your ‘heat’ status.”
Lin Qiyan stood frozen in confusion. [What status? Is it the one I’m thinking of?] She really wanted to pull out her phone and ask the internet.
“Get a checkup, Yan Yan,” Mu Yunge winked at her. “Health is your greatest asset.”
Lin Qiyan was won over again. She really didn’t have much of a mind of her own.
Ding. The elevator reached the 20th floor.
This floor housed the Director’s office and was much quieter than the first floor. The large windows on both sides let in plenty of light. The hospital truly felt sacred; their voices naturally lowered upon entry. Their shoes made only faint tapping sounds on the tiles.
The door to the Director’s office was slightly ajar. Mu Yunge knocked twice and pushed it open. “Little Uncle.”
The man behind the computer looked up with a faint smile. “Mumu is here.” He stood up as he spoke and saw the well-behaved girl behind Mu Yunge.
The girl smiled politely at him. “Hello, Dr. Mu.”
Both were subtly observing each other. Lin Qiyan was surprised by how young and successful Mu Ze looked, possessing the vibe of a “refined scoundrel.”
Mu Yunge smiled politely. “Little Uncle, does the hospital still have those free physical exam packages?”
Mu Ze and her shared a quick glance. He pushed up his glasses and smiled. “Yes. You must be Mumu’s classmate. You can just call me Uncle Mu.”
He tapped a few keys on an electronic screen on his desk. Soon, a nurse in a white coat knocked.
“Dr. Mu, you called?”
Mu Ze: “Take this young lady for a full body checkup. Also, get two bottles of blockers and…” He paused, looked at Mu Yunge, and nodded. “…That’s all.”
The nurse nodded and smiled gently at Lin Qiyan. “Let’s go.”
Lin Qiyan gave a response and followed. Before leaving, she looked at the person leaning against the doorframe. The latter smiled and mouthed: I’ll wait for you here.
Lin Qiyan’s eyes crinkled in a smile, and she walked out.
Once certain she was gone, Mu Yunge closed the door. Mu Ze spoke first: “It’s her?”
Mu Yunge gave a hum of affirmation, her expression neutral.
Mu Ze: “Are you sure she’ll really work?”
Mu Yunge tilted her head. “It will be much better.”
Mu Ze was silent for a moment. “What are her pheromones?”
Mu Yunge narrowed her eyes at the window. “Milan flowers. I suspect her pheromone grade is very high, but she doesn’t know it herself.”
She didn’t even know her own secondary gender. She still foolishly believed that all girls were weak and needed protection.
Mu Ze was stunned for a moment. He nodded. “To be safe, let’s test the compatibility first.”
Mu Yunge didn’t object. Since she was wearing short sleeves, she simply extended her arm. Mu Ze drew blood with a disposable syringe and told her to press down with an alcohol swab. After storing the blood properly, Mu Ze wiped his hands and looked at her, his eyes sharp behind his glasses.
“If it’s a match, what do you plan to do? Bonding?”
Mu Yunge smiled emotionlessly. “Little Uncle, what do you think?” The wound wasn’t serious; after a symbolic press, she tossed the swab into the trash.
Under Mu Ze’s direction, the order of Lin Qiyan’s exam was shuffled. Her blood was drawn first, and the pheromone grade results came back quickly. Mu Ze pulled it up on the computer for Mu Yunge.
It was written clearly:
Code A5798601: Milan Flower Pheromones.
Grade: Rare.
Characteristics: Self-screening and protective.
Mu Yunge rubbed her fingers together.
Mu Ze: “This is only the second rare-type pheromone I’ve ever seen. Your genes are highly compatible.” He even felt like joking. “Where did you find her? I’d like to find one to bring back for research too.”
Mu Yunge laughed too as she stood up. “She found me. In the middle of the street at midnight.”
Mu Ze’s smile faded. “Were you street racing again?”
Mu Yunge: “My rut is coming up. I’m irritable.”
Mu Ze: “Careful, or I’ll tell your grandfather.”
Mu Yunge shrugged, appearing indifferent. “Little Uncle, who do you think Grandfather would side with?”
Mu Ze stared at her for a while before letting out a helpless laugh. He turned back and clicked his mouse a few times. “Compatibility results are out too.”
Mu Ze teased her by pausing. Mu Yunge looked at him silently.
Mu Ze: “Don’t be so fierce. It’s nearly 100%.” He added playfully, “A match made in heaven. Really not considering it?”
Mu Yunge looked away. “Not interested.”
Mu Ze nodded in understanding. “The hospital has recorded her pheromones and will speed up the research. During this time, you need to stay as close to her as possible.”
Mu Yunge acknowledged this.
“The Shen family sent another Omega over.” Mu Ze’s topic shift was abrupt.
Mu Yunge frowned. Mu Ze leaned back in his chair, fingers interlaced on the desk. “Really not going to take a look?”
Mu Yunge: “Little Uncle, are you bored?”
Mu Ze smiled like an old fox. “Did you manage to catch my ‘Little Aunt’ yet?”
Mu Ze’s smile froze. “Mumu, you aren’t as cute as you were when you were a child.”
Mu Yunge: “But you look much older than when I was a child.”
Mu Ze: “…” He turned around, deciding not to speak to his niece any longer.
Time passed quickly. Though there were many items in the checkup, Lin Qiyan finished in about an hour thanks to the “back door” access. When she returned to the Director’s office, she noticed the atmosphere was a bit off.
Lin Qiyan looked at Mu Yunge sitting on the sofa. The latter stood up and walked over. “The results will be out by this afternoon. Yan Yan, let’s go look at houses first.”
Lin Qiyan: “What about the spray?”
Mu Ze gestured to the bag on the desk and smiled. “Everything is in here. Once a day is enough. If you find your pheromone concentration rising, you can add an extra spray or two.”
During the checkup, Lin Qiyan had learned about secondary genders and precautions from the nurse. She still hadn’t fully digested the information.
“Thank you, Uncle Mu.”
Mu Ze pushed his glasses up. “You’re welcome.”
Mu Yunge picked up the bag. “We’re leaving. Goodbye, Little Uncle.”
Mu Ze let out a chuckle. Truly a top-tier Alpha who was gifted at disguise.
